Well June has arrived, and brings with it some beautiful weather! As it is forecast to stay, we thought we would share with you some fantastic outdoor events that are happening throughout Devon during the month of June, which will be made all the better with sunshine!
Aside from the stunning coastline, Devon has so much more to offer, including a huge range of food and music festivals. These are just a few of those happening this month.
Crediton Food Festival
This year Crediton celebrates it’s seventh anniversary of the annual food festival. As previously mentioned on our blog, Crediton has a rich history of good locally produced food, and boasts many independent food outlets; butcher, greengrocer, bakers, delicatessens, cafes and restaurants. It also has many food producers who feature in the prize winning farmers market, held twice a month in the Town Square.
This festival is an opportunity for all these producers and food outlets to come together to showcase what they do. Alongside the food stalls there are demonstrations and a range of fun activities for all the family.
The festival is run by a group of local volunteers, food producers and community organisations.
Croyde Surf & Music Festival
This will be the 17th year that Croyde has hosted the GoldCoast Oceanfest and it continues to grow in stature and reputation. Led by a passionate and experienced core team, ‘Oceanfest’ hosts a unique format of events and takes place against the majestic backdrop of North Devons’ Gold Coast.
As well as international freesports professionals competing, there is a live music stage and big screen showcasing more than 20 live acts over the weekend. Demos, exhibitions, simulators and sampling booths add to the eclectic atmosphere.
In it’s own words, Oceanfest ‘blends a potentially intoxication, eclectic and laidback mix of quality music, exhilarating surf, action packed sports, locally sourced food and family friendly fun’
Ilfracome Continental Market
Ilfracome seafront will be host to a wide variety of continental market stalls through the month of June. Over 25 traders from all over Europe will take part, as well as fairtrade art, woodcarving and handmade clothes from Africa, South East Asia and Latin America.
There will be an enormous range of foods to try and buy including biscuits, olives, nougat, cheeses, garlic, sausages, breads, charcuterie, tartiflette and so on!
The market will be colourful and bustling with a range of handbags, leather, soaps, toys, pashminas and so much more – there really is something for everyone.
Ilfracombe is proud to host the market, as most products on sale will come from ‘the terroir’ (the land) of the stall holder, where they are produced by small organisations such as family businesses, farms or small factories using traditional methods, maintaining a high standard of quality.
Teignmouth Folk Festival
This will be the 17th Annual Folk Festival, based in one of Devon’s oldest seaside resorts located below the Haldon Hills and on the estuary of the River Teign.
With twelve venues taking part, hosting a variety of recognised folk artists and bands it is sure to be a lively and popular event.
Throughout the weekend audiences will also be entertained around the town and along the seafront by Morris dancers. Viewers will witness lots of colourful, energetic, lively dancing to traditional and new music.
Camping is also available, and the weekend is suitable for the whole family.
