The cottages have been tastefully converted from a round barn (which housed a jenny ring, stone barns and workers cottages c.1800. Our beach is a sheltered cove and at high tide it is great for swimming, rock pooling, skipping stones or using a kayak, sea canoe or inflatable rowing boat. At low tide it is very sandy and suitable for small children to build castles (and parents to dig pretend boats!)and you can walk round to Watermouth Harbour or to the spit of land opposite and return on the coastal footpath (part of the 180 mile Tarka Trail). There are two pubs in walking distance, one in either direction, along the coastal footpath (about 30 minutes). There are many more good pubs (most of which allow dogs) and restaurants in Ilfracombe, Berrynarbor, Braunton and other places within 15 minutes drive. You can have a home-cooked meal from our freezer or purchase our own lamb or pork (when available)or a local takeaway, delivered by taxi for an extra £5 to £7. We are a wonderful place to 'porpoise watch' in the summer and have visiting seals and dolphins on many occasions. Birdlife is abundant, today we were watching a Kestrel in the morning and at lunchtime we observed a family of 7 Partridges foraging in the headland field. From Easter 2010 the new Ilfracombe/Swansea passenger ferry will be operating a less than 90 minute service each way. Ilfracombe Harbour is just a 5 minute drive from us.
