Fishleigh Farm is a 26 acre smallholding set down to permanent pasture. We make all our own hay, have small flocks of Grey Faced Dartmoor sheep [on the Rare Breeds Watch list] and Herdwick [a Heritage sheep breed], plus an assortment of chickens, geese, peafowl and ducks. There are also several ponies, some used for carriage driving, and two young Dartmoor Hill Ponies. Our fruit and vegetable garden is work in progress!
The farm is surrounded by beautiful countryside, which changes with every season. There are so many places to visit and explore; from craggy coastlines to sandy beaches, historic market towns and buildings, to Dingles Fairground with traditional fairground rides, The Big Sheep, the privately owned coastal village of Clovelly with its steep cobbled street and no cars, Dartington Glass, RHS Rosemoor, and even a gnome reserve! For exploring the countryside, Dartmoor is a must, with its rugged beauty, archaeological and old industrial sites. For walking and cycling there is the Ruby Way, the Tarka Trail and Granite Way. If you like train travel there are several steam railways to visit, or have a day out in Exeter, travelling on the newly restored line from Okehampton station with its 1960s preserved buildings. The North Devon and Cornwall coasts are easy to reach or venture further into Cornwall for The Eden project, The Lost Gardens of Heligen, Tintagel or Boscastle.
The Old Dairy was once a shippon and provides ground floor accommodation. The front door leads into the spacious open-plan living room, with a dining area at the kitchen end. At the other end there is a comfortable sofa and easy chairs grouped round the television and bookcase. There is a USB charging adapter and WiFi.
The kitchen is well equipped, with everything you need including a dishwasher and washing machine. A high chair can be provided if required. We provide a welcome basket to keep you going overnight which includes eggs from our own hens, home-made preserves and cake, tea, hot chocolate, coffee, sugar, fruit juice, cereals, butter, bread and milk.
From the living room a sliding door leads to the patio; the perfect place to sit in the evening to enjoy an alfresco meal, perhaps a glass of wine, see the amazing sunsets, then watch the stars appear in the darkening sky. The private enclosed garden provides a safe place for children to play.
The double bedroom includes a small child’s bed and space for a travel cot [which we can provide.] Two Z-beds are available to suit extended families or teenagers who can ‘camp out’ in the living room. The shower room adjoins the bedroom.
The Old Dairy is heated by electric radiators. Towels are provided and beds will be made up for your arrival with freshly ironed bed linen.
There is parking for one car beside the Dairy.
We have many returning guests who want to see and explore so much more in the area and who love the serenity The Old Dairy provides, both reasons why they return.
Shirley and Penny [mother and daughter] would love to welcome you to Fishleigh Farm and share the delights this area has to offer.
