Safe cycling for all the family, the Tarka Trail runs from Ilfracombe to Meeth with many cycle hire points along the way. The Tarka Trail, named after the book about 'Tarka the Otter', written by Henry Williamson, takes the route from the fictional story. Well worth a day's activity for the family.
The Tarka Trail is a predominantly flat, off-road cycle path that runs from Ilfracombe to Meeth, around 46 miles in total. If you haven't brought bikes with you it doesn't matter, there are many cycle hire shops along the route.
In Braunton the trail runs alongside the estuary and through a wildlife area or, further along, you can pass the 12th Century Bridge at Bideford. Stop at one of the cafes along the route to make the ride more enjoyable and take in the views whilst getting some exercise.
